#1) Habitat for Humanity Home and Garden Show
This year's show introduces a floral competition sponsored by Nordlie and new vendors with a focus on decorating items for inside the home. There is also a raffle with great prizes including a home makeover, and speakers on Saturday and Sunday. Show hours are Fri. 4-7pm; Sat. 10am-7pm; Sun. 10am-4pm. Tickets are $7 at the door. #2) Learn Great Foods “Go Fish” Retreat
This weekend, it’s a fresh-from-the-lakes extravaganza with Learn Great Foods! Visit Carlson’s Fisheries in Fishtown to hear about the family’s history from the fourth and fifth generations of fishermen working from Leland, Clay and Bill. #3) Coast Guard Cadets Crockpot Showdown
Coast Guard Cadets are cooking up a way to help one of their own--JD Burson, was diagnosed with a rare, cancerous brain tumor in early February. He has already been through brain surgery and is now facing multiple rounds of chemo and radiation at the University of Michigan hospital. JD is a student at the Maritime Academy and a former member of the US Coast Guard. His fellow Maritime cadets are hosting a benefit “Crockpot Showdown” to raise money to help with JD’s medical expenses. These cadets must create their best dishes using ONLY a slow cooker. Come show your support, this Saturday at Left Foot Charley winery (at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons) starting at 4 PM. A free-will, $10.00 donation will be collected at the door. You’ll enjoy live music, free wine samples, and LOTS of delicious culinary crock pot creations! Plus, you can vote for the “People’s Choice” award and take home a recipe or two with you. All proceeds will go directly to JD’s medical care.
#4) Blissfest Roots Music Series presents “Harmonious Wail”
Specializing in the style of Django Reinhardt, The Wail consists of mandolin, guitar, bass and amazing female vocals with snare percussion. Don’t miss this show, Saturday at 8pm at the Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey. Tickets are $12 advance; $15 door; students 1/2 price; members and Seniors $1 off. #5) Landscaping for Water Quality workshop at the
Boardman River Nature Center
Answer gardening questions like: What is a rain garden? How much fertilizer do I need? What plants can I use in a buffer on my lakefront property? How do I make a rain barrel?
