Semicolons in September: Get Inked for Prevention

Monday-Fridays all through the month of Septmeber from 12pm to 5pm, come to Ohana Tattoo Parlor (308 US 31 S in Traverse City) and get inked for prevention. This fundraiser benefits and is for suicide prevention.

Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital Blood Drive

Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital is hosting a blood drive with Michigan Blood, Thursday September 19th from 9am-2:30pm. They will be in the mobile bus, which will be parked behind the hospital by the Crawford Room. For more information and to schedule your donation go to

September 20th thru 22nd

Balloons Over Bay Harbor

September 20th thru September 22nd the 1st Annual Balloons Over Bay Harbor event that will take place in the Village at Bay Harbor, September 20 – 22, 2019. There will be 10 of some of the best pilots in the nation who compete in national festivals across the country. There will be a schedule of flight activity throughout the weekend, in which they will take off over Little Traverse Bay. There will also be “night glows” where the balloons will light up while grounded on both Friday and Saturday evenings. There is nothing like this type of event in the area, and it will truly be spectacular!

There will also be other activities built around the event to enhance this family fun event, including an Autumn Glory Color Run & Walk benefiting McLaren Northern Michigan Pediatrics Departments and a VIP Afterglow Reception in The Loft on Saturday evening.

Moonlight Madness 5K

September 21st from 8pm to 9:30pm, please join the Emmet Conservation District for a unique, chip-timed evening trail race starting and finishing at the beautiful Petoskey State Park located on Little Traverse Bay. The race will start in the state park at the beach, take you along the Little Traverse Wheelway bike path, and bring you back on trails through the park where you will end your race by beautiful moonlight. This is an evening trail race, for your safety we require you to have some form of lighting. Be sure to wear your headlamp, shoe lights, glow in the dark clothing, or glow sticks to illuminate your way! No strollers or dogs allowed. Costs vary. Register online. Race day registration allowed, but may run out of race shirts.

Betsie Valley Ride for Reading

Come ride for a cause September 21st with the Betsie Valley Ride for Reading. This event and the efforts of the Friends of the Betsie Valley District Library is to Raise funds to support reading and educational programs for children and adults in Thompsonville and neighboring communities. The passion of the Friends and the mission of the Library are to create the love and magic of reading in all of our community families. Registration is 10:30am-11:30am and the ride starts at 12pm at Geno’s Sports Bar and Grill in Thompsonville.

75th Anniversary of Leland Library

On Saturday, September 21st, join your friends at Leland Township Library for an open house celebrating 75 years of the library. Come enjoy cake and cookies and learn the history of the library. The Inland String Band will preform out on the lawn in front of the lawn from noon until 3pm in association with the Leland Heritage Festival.

Afternoon Fall Dessert Sail

A schooner sail is a fun way to end your day and the fall season is a great time to be on the water in northern Michigan. Temperatures are comfortable, traffic is light and we just may see some fall colors. Enjoy coffee, hot cocoa, and a special local dessert on this two-hour sail leaving from the Inland Seas Education Association 1pm.  Participants can help raise the sails and steer the ship or just sit back and relax. Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire Great Lakes curiosity, stewardship, and passion.

Books to Movies

Join in every Monday night at the Traverse City District Library, from 6:30pm to 9pm, for Book to Movies. Watch movies that were based on books or real events.  Once in a while you may watch a movie NOT based on either but just for fun.  Popcorn is always available from AMC Classic Cherry Blossom 14 who have been donating to this program for over four years. Ford Drive 4UR School

Please join the Petoskey Band Boosters and Brown Motors Ford to raise money for the Petoskey Band Program!

Test drive a Ford vehicle of your choice & Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to Petoskey Bands. A potential of $6,000 for the band program! All we need is for you to come test drive vehicles – we aren’t asking for any money from you, just your time!!!  Participants must be 18 or older, have a valid drivers license & insurance.

Building Community Resilience

Join an essential conversation about adverse childhood experiences at the Benzie County Central High School Auditorium  .
Join in on Wednesday, September 25th  from 5pm to 8pm, for a free event in Benzie County that will explore the health impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences and what our community can do to change the trajectory. Local experts will lead an audience-driven discussion and question and answer session following the screening of the documentary film, Resilience: The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope. 

This event is for parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors, business owners, healthcare providers, schools—everyone who has a passion for thriving, resilient communities.

Founders Feast

On September 25th, the Otsego County Historical Society is excited to present their 2nd Annual Founders’ Feast farm-to-table fundraising event! The memorable evening will include a farm fresh meal, cash bar, live music and a silent auction. The Founders’ Feast will take place at Otsego Resort & Convention Center on Wednesday evening with doors opening at 5:30pm and dinner served at 6pm. Proceeds from this event benefit The Otsego County Historical Society.

Join us for the 7th Annual Leelanau Uncaged, when downtown Northport closes its streets to host dozens of musical performers, dancers, artists, and food vendors. 90 artists, more than 30 musical and dance performances, over a dozen food trucks and vendors are expected. The Peace Ranch 5K/10K Run offers a unique 5K through the Pere Marquette Forest or a rugged 10K trail course. Walk, run, or take a ride on a horse-driven carriage. All proceeds benefit rescue horses in our therapeutic herd. Veterans Inspirational Art Show

A group of veterans came together at the Traverse City Veteran Center with a mission to empower and support veterans in our community. We are a project-oriented, informal group seeking to work with other veteran groups to complete our missions. Our first mission is the Veterans Inspirational Art Show.

The first annual Veterans Inspirational Art Show will take place on Saturday, September 28th from 5pm to 9pm. The Art Show reception will be at the home of Casey and Dana Cowell on the Old Mission Peninsula. The show is exclusive to veteran artists at no cost and artists will have an opportunity to sell their work commission free during the event.

The annual Fall Pumpkin Pedal will take place on Sunday, September 29th. Registration starts at 11:30 AM. Please sign a waiver in the Peninsula Room (adjacent left to Jolly Pumpkin Restaurant) before meeting in the Jolly Pumpkin parking lot for the ride at 12:00 PM.

The Great Pumpkin Dash and PuPkin Costume Parade 2019

The Great Pumpkin Dash is where pumpkins and their people have one goal: crossing the finish line … unsquashed. It is for all ages with prizes for best costume, heaviest lug, and more! Costumes strongly encouraged!

The Dash rolls through Mt. Holiday’s woodsy terrain, taking costumed luggers of all ages through four fun obstacles.

There is a catch though: Everybody big and small has to carry a pumpkin! Before the dash begins, pick your special pumpkin from our patch. We will weigh it and mark it. If you’re really brave, pick two! Your arms will love you for it.

The goal? Finish the lug, squash intact! Happening October 13th 10am-2pm at Mt. Holiday in Traverse City. Hosted by the Great Pumpkin Dash, Mt. Holiday and the Cherryland Humane Society.
