Cupcake Decorating

Ruthann Dexter, owner of Ruthann’s Bakery in Bellaire, demonstrates the art of cupcake decoratingwith her signature Butter Cream Frosting. To sign up by February 17th, call the library at 231-331-4318. Cost is a suggested donation of $5 to Friends of the Library. Sponsored by Friends of Alden District Library. Held at the Helena Township Community Center, located at 8751 Helena Rd in Alden.

Trivia Nights at Cherry Republic

Each Wednesday night, throughout the winter months, friends, neighbors and visitors gather at the Cherry Public House on Cherry Republic’s Glen Arbor campus to enjoy a rousing night of trivia, along with craft beer, wine, and a full dinner menu. There is no cost to play — simply just show up. Teams can have up to 6 people.

February 20th

Charlevoix Chambers Annual Meeting & Awards Dinner

Come celebrate celebrating Charlevoix, its Chamber businesses, organizations, clubs, and individuals at the Chamber Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner at Castle Farms on Thursday, February 20. The night of celebration will include dinner and a cash bar. 5:30 PM is the cocktail hour. 6:15 PM dinner is served and at

Lantern-lit Snowshoe Hike

February 21th, enjoy a lantern-lit snowshoe hike along a portion of the Heritage Nature Trail at Mitchell State Park in Cadillac. The short hike, about 1 mile, will have a campfire warming station and hot cocoa. Participants are welcome to bring their own snowshoes or the park will have a limited number of snowshoes available first come, first served. Last hikers should go out no later than 8 p.m. allowing everyone enough time to enjoy the trail before lanterns are extinguished at 9 p.m. No reservations are required. Participants should dress appropriately for weather conditions. In the chance of server weather or poor travel conditions, the event may be canceled. Michigan Snowmobile Festival

This year’s Michigan Snowmobile Festival is all about riding again! Join in for Michigan’s Richest Snowmobile Fun Run on February 21 – 22, 2020.  There is no cost to register. Pre-register online anytime or at the Tourism Bureau office on February 21 or 22. Registration packets will be available from noon – 6:00 p.m. on Friday or 8:00 a.m. – noon on Saturday. The first 100 people to pick up their registration packets will receive a free t-shirt or hat. Maps with highlighted stops will be given out at registration, along with pre-printed slips to turn in at each stop.   Snowmobilers do not have to start at the same time, follow the same route or make it to every stop. Please note, most stops do not open until 11:00 a.m. A guided ride will start at 10:30 a.m. from the Tourism Bureau office on Saturday. Participants will be entered in a certificate drawing for the stops they go to and all slips will go in for our cash drawings. You have a better chance of winning the cash drawings if you visit each stop! The Tourism Bureau is located at 319 West Main Street in Gaylord.

Dogman Challenge

Revolution Bike in Charlevoix is pleased to announce the Annual Dogman Challenge Fat Bike Race happening February 22nd! The Dogman Challenge is a 2 hour winter endurance event held entirely on the multi-use trails around Mt. McSauba Recreation Area and North Point Nature Preserve in Charlevoix. The course consists of a fast and challenging 2 mile loop through rolling and wooded terrain. The rider to complete the most laps in 2 hours is the champion and will receive a cash prize and trophy. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in both the Men and Women’s Expert and Sport divisions. The Mt. McSauba Recreation Area is located at 09223 McSauba Road in Charlevoix.

3rd Annual Walloon Lake Winter Fest

The Village of Walloon Lake is hosting the 3rd Annual Walloon Winterfest on Saturday, February 22nd, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. The event will take place at Barrel Back Restaurant, The Village Green Park, and Tommy’s Walloon. Winterfest is a family friendly event, with indoor and outdoor activities for kids of all ages. There will be complimentary ice skate rentals in a variety of sizes for the whole family, and free ice skating at the ice rink located in the Village Green Park. Snowshoe and Cross-Country Skis are available for rental at Tommy’s to explore local hiking trails, weather permitting, of course. Warm up inside with a Complimentary Hot Chocolate Bar. The Petoskey Snowmobile Club will be holding their 2nd Annual Vintage Snowmobile Ride. The ride begins at the Petoskey Snowmobile Clubhouse and will end at Barrel Back Restaurant to be showcased on the lake. Gas is available at the Blue Facilities Building and Snowmobile parking is available for the event. Enjoy free Bean Soup at the Bean Pot while enjoying the Vintage Snowmobiles. Explore Local Breweries & Wineries, located in Tommy’s, featuring (8) Local beer, wine, cider, and liquor companies. Drink tickets can be purchased on site from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Enjoy Barrel Back food and drink specials, including an extended Happy Hour from 1:00 PM -6:00 PM

6th Annual Guns-n-Hoses Benefit Hockey Game

February 22nd, from 6pm to 10pm, you’re invited to watch local firefighters face off against police officers in this annual game to raise funds for a selected family in need! Get your tickets early because this event is historically standing-room-only! Hike for Health at Duncan Bay

Have you visited the new trails at the Duncan Bay Nature Preserve yet? February 22nd, join Little Traverse Conservancy staff on a winter hiking excursion to the overlook on the shores of Lake Huron. After the hike, you will (optionally) meet to order lunch at Nourish, the yummy foodie destination in downtown Cheboygan. Wild Wild Westwoods Fundraiser

Saturday, February 22nd, come to the Traverse City City Opera House and join in for a night of fun, food, and fundraising! Through the support of this generous community, there will be a large variety of donations to bid on. Your $45 ticket includes; Country style food and beverages, Silent & live auction, Live music and Artwork created by Westwoods Elementary students. All funds raised will go towards the social and emotional needs of all Westwoods students.

12th Annual Great Indoor Folk Fest

More than 100 musicians from Northern Michigan’s folk, bluegrass and acoustic music scene will be performing at this annual music festival held at the historic Village at Grand Traverse Commons, Febraury 23rd from 12pm to 7:30pm. Eight stages, including those dedicated to new folk and kids’ music will be spread throughout the Mercado corridor of Building 50 and Kirkbride Hall. A satellite stage will be set up at Left Foot Charley winery and storefronts will be open! Open mic at Cuppa Joe . . .songwriters in the round. . .you won’t want to miss this one.

Every Tuesday from 1pm to 4pm you are invited to play Mah Jongg. People of all skill levels, including newcomers are invited. No limit to participants. CWIB GO GRANTS Fundraiser Luncheon

This is the annual Connecting Women in Business GO GRANTS Fundraiser Luncheon that features an amazing silent auction is happening February 25th at the Sage Restaurant at Odawa Casino.  The money raised by the silent auction goes directly to Go Grants. Go Grants are an important element of the Connecting Women in Business Group. Grants provide small grants to girls in grades 6 to 10 in the Char-Em ISD service area and reach out to young girls in the area who have an idea and a passion to try something new. Grants range up to $500.  Since 2010, they have given 172 girls nearly $63,000 in GO Grants. The Cost to attend is $40. $20 of the ticket price goes directly to the grants program as well as proceeds from the silent auction and sponsorships. For more information go to petoskeychamber.com

Art in Ice, Sweet and Nice

February 29th, watch 3,000 pounds of ice be transformed before your eyes at “Art in Ice, Sweet and Nice” in downtown Bellaire! Carved by regional culinary artists and sponsored by Bellaire businesses, this ice art is something you won’t want to miss. The American Culinary Federation of Northwest Michigan has partnered with Shanty Creek Resorts and the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce to bring this extravaganza to the streets of downtown Bellaire!

Returning this year during the Art in Ice event is the Sweet Treats Bake Off, in which area pastry chefs compete for bragging rights as the best sweet treat in Bellaire, judged by the first 200 lucky ticket-holders! Sweet Treats tickets are $5 per person.

March 14th

Manistee Polar Plunge

The Manistee Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Michigan is March 14th at Little River Casino Resort.

Register to Plunge for free! Fundraise to Plunge into a swimming pool outside the Little River Casino. Plungers must raise a minimum of $75 to receive the 2020 Polar Plunge Event T-shirt. Individuals on a team need to average $75 per person to receive the T-shirt. Additional higher level Polar Plunge incentive items are available the more money you raise!

Day-of registration takes place from 11 am. Plunge starts at 12 pm. The After Splash Bash will take place immediately following the last plunger.

March 14th

Twin Saults Polar Plunge

The Twin Saults Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Michigan is March 14th at Moloney’s Alley in Sault St. Marie Michigan. This year’s Twin Saults Polar Plunge also includes a Pub Crawl! Registration will take place from 11 am – 1:45 pm at Moloney’s. Plunging will start at 2 pm sharp at the corner of Ashmun and Portage streets where our brave Polar Plungers will jump into a swimming pool. Numerous ‘Warming Stations’ downtown will be offering drink and food specials!

Plungers must raise a minimum of $75 to receive the 2020 Polar Plunge Event T-shirt. Individuals on a team need to average $75 per person to receive the T-shirt. Shirts will have all participating Warming Stations listed on the back and you will be able to check off which locations you stop by.
